LA Kings Team Up with Make-A-Wish Foundation for Annual ‘Hockey Fights Cancer Night’ at STAPLES Center
Club grants its 4th wish in 2019 with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to 12-year-old Jacob Brown; Signs him for a two-day contract to be a part of the team
AEG’s LA Kings recently hosted its annual Hockey Fight Cancer™ Night, presented by Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer®, at STAPLES Center on Saturday, Nov. 23 in conjunction with the fulfillment of the club’s 4th wish granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2019.
As part of the wish, the Kings signed 12-year-old Jacob Brown, who is currently battling Leukemia, for a two-day contract to be a part of the team. During his two days on the team, Jacob and his family enjoyed the afternoon of Nov. 22 at Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo, Calif., where he suited up to join the team on the ice following practice.
The following day, during ‘Hockey Fights Cancer Night,’ he joined the team on the ice at STAPLES Center to warm up as well as participated in the ceremonial puck drop. Following the game, Jacob received a private tour of the Kings locker room led by Drew Doughty.
Throughout the Saturday game at STAPLES Center, children impacted by cancer participated in special Kings experiences including: Honorary Ice Crew, Bench Buddies, Kid DJ, Guest Announcer, etc. as part of the LA Kings Kids’ Games series.
To date the Kings have raised $45,000 to benefit Amgen Breakaway From Cancer’s independent non-profit partners. In addition to proceeds raised from the club’s 50/50 Raffle and silent auctions, the Kings also have donated $500 for every home goal scored since the start of the season.
Hockey Fights Cancer™ was founded by the NHL and NHL Players' Association in 1998 to raise funds and awareness for all those impacted by cancer.
