Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena Launches Along With Two in Brasil –

Rio de Janeiro’s Estádio Maracanã and Recife’s Itaipava Arena Pernambuco

to Join AEG Facilities’ Global Roster of Elite Venues Over Five Continents

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 3, 2013) AEG Facilities has reached another milestone in the venue management industry by successfully opening three stadiums in two continents within an unprecedented short amount of time. Joining AEG Facilities’ global roster of elite venues are two stadiums located in Brasil; Estádio Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro) and Itaipava Arena Pernambuco (Recife) along with Stockholm, Sweden’s Tele2 Arena who each hosted sold out events of international stature to unveil their new world-class venues. The addition of these three stadiums brings AEG Facilities’ portfolio to a total of 11 world class stadiums that includes Coliseum (Oakland, Ca.), StubHub Center (Carson, Ca.), Farmers Field (Los Angeles, Ca.), BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston, Tx.), Dalian Stadium (Dalian, China), Suncorp Stadium (Brisbane, Australia), Allianz Parque (Sao Paulo, Brasil) and Arena da Baixada (Curitiba, Brasil), establishing AEG Facilities as the world leader in stadium management.

Officially opening their doors this week with a special concert featuring Swedish artists Robyn, Lars Winnerbäck and Kent was the outdoor, open air Tele2 Arena. In front of a record audience of 39,714, this was the first of four events to take place at the Stockholm site that also includes a 16,000-seat arena. Other highlights of the Grand Opening celebration, attended by over 100,000 guests, included a concert with Swedish Pop Band Gyllene Tider and three soccer matches. The venue is home to the Djurgårdens IF Fotbollsförening and Hammarby Fotboll clubs.

The opening of Tele2 Arena, equipped with a retractable roof, marks a great milestone for Sweden as Vice Mayor of Stockholm, Madeleine Sjöstedt said, “Tele2 Arena is an arena [stadium] for everyone in Stockholm. With its mix of sport, culture and entertainment it will be a meeting place for all residents of the city as well as its visitors.”

To celebrate the grand opening of Tele2 Arena, the stadium broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest Red Carpet leading into a venue. Measuring 550 meters long, it smashed the old record of the longest red carpet at 455 meters which was set at the 2011 world premiere of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 in London.

Upcoming events at Tele2 Arena include home matches featuring the tenant football clubs Djurgårdens IF Fotbollsförening and Hammarby IF, the Swedish American Football Championship Final (September 7), Nitro Circus Live (September 16) and Volbeat live in concert (November 26).

While Stockholm celebrates their successful venue opening, two other world-class stadiums in the AEG Facilities portfolio recently opened their doors in Brasil. Readying for their world-wide “coming out party” during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 73,531-seat Estádio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro and 42,849-seat Itaipava Arena Pernambuco in Recife, Brasil opened their doors this past April and May respectively and have already hosted more than 30 impressive events. Estádio Maracanã has played host to an international friendly featuring Brasil vs. England, the Confederations Cup (Mexico vs. Italy, Spain vs. Tahiti & Brasil vs. Spain), Brasileirão Championship season (Botafogo vs. Vitória, Vasco vs. Fluminense, & Flamengo vs. Botafogo) and Copa Brasil (Fluminense vs. Goiás & Botafogo vs. Atlético MG). Itaipava Arena Pernambuco has hosted an international friendly featuring Nautico vs. Sporting Lisbon, the Confederations Cup (Spain vs. Uruguay, Italy vs. Japan & Uruguay vs. Tahiti), Brasileirão Championship season (Nautico vs. Ponte Preta & Botafogo vs. Fluminense) and a concert with popular Brasil axésinger Claudia Leitte.

"AEG Facilities has been a very important partner in Brasil, opening two stadiums for the Confederations Cup and legacy games immediately afterwards. With tough construction schedules, we had little time to prepare operations and AEG was instrumental in helping host these world class events," said Sinval Andrade, President of Estádio Maracanã and Itaipava Arena Pernambuco.

Each of the Brasil venues serves as the home field for some of most prestigious franchises in country with Estádio Maracanã serving as the home to Fluminense and Botafogo futball clubs, while Itaipava Arena Pernambuco hosts the Nautico futball club. With more than 80 matches scheduled between both of the Brasil stadiums between now and the end of the year, the venues will be well prepared to host 11 matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

AEG Facilities is proud to open the doors and be affiliated with these three world-class stadiums across two continents over a remarkably short period of time,” said Bob Newman, President, AEG Facilities. “The entire AEG network across the globe supported the successful launches and the immediate establishment of strong event calendars. The caliber of events, staff and state of the art technology at Estádio Maracanã, Itaipava Arena Pernambuco and Tele2 Arena will establish these stadiums as the best in the world and we look forward to providing a world class experience for all of our visitors.”
