LA Kings to Expand LA Lions Hockey Program Into Inland Empire

LOS ANGELES – In an effort to allow for more girls hockey options for young athletes in Southern California the Los Angeles Kings are expanding the popular LA Lions hockey program into the Inland Empire, the club announced today.

Clinics will take place next week in Riverside and tryouts begin in June.  The program will work in conjunction with the Junior Reign.

The LA Lions Girls Hockey Program was created as an all-encompassing youth hockey program for female athletes.  Designed for all ages and skill levels of youth hockey, the program teaches skill development through skating, puck handling, shooting and team competition at a young age, while adding team concepts and systems of play at older and/or elite levels. The program is also committed to instilling important values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication and commitment. Athletes in this program further their skill development through the highest quality coaching, access to female role models and elite level resources for furthering her career beyond youth hockey.

The inaugural LA Kings Youth Girls Hockey Program started with one team and began play in November, 2015 at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. For all LA Lions program information visit lalionshockey.com and email [email protected].

“I am thrilled to be a part of expanding the LA Lions girls hockey program to the Inland Empire,” said Ben Frank, President Jr. Reign.  “The LA Kings have proven they are committed to growing youth and community hockey opportunities for all and the LA Lions program brings a unique and special opportunity to young girls with the dream and love for the game of hockey. Boys and girls should share the opportunity to pursue their love for the game and the expansion of the Lions program into the IE represents an exciting time for the surrounding communities and also for the future of girl’s hockey in the state of California.”

Said Victoria Pizzuto, Coordinator LA Lions and Ball Hockey: “With the growth of girls hockey in the greater Los Angeles county, the LA Lions are excited to have a sister program join their mission of developing girl’s hockey. It’s exhilarating to see girls springing up from everywhere wanting to join the world of youth girls hockey. Ben has been a huge supporter of our program from day one, and we can’t wait to begin this new venture together”

The Junior Reign Hockey Club, which is affiliated with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, the Kings’ primary hockey affiliate, offers organized programming for young players of all ages and abilities.

The Kings continue their four-game road trip tomorrow in Colorado against the Avalanche.   The game, which begins at 6 p.m. (PT), will be broadcast on FOX Sports West and KABC Radio 790.
