Position Summary:

Reporting to the Guest Services Management Team, Usher/Ticket Takers are responsible for providing excellent guest service at NYCB Live, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum events which includes basketball games, hockey games, concerts and other events. Incumbent should be a self-starter that is able to operate under minimal supervision to accomplish work tasks such as: assist patrons at sports and entertainment events by performing duties, such as greeting guests, collecting admission tickets and passes from patrons, assisting in finding seats, searching for lost articles, and locating such facilities as rest rooms and ATM’s. Usher/Ticket Takers can also be assigned to work in our premium areas. Primary responsibilities, for Usher/Ticket Takers working in the VIP areas will include but aren’t limited to; greeting and directing guests within the VIP Lounge, Lower Lobby area, and VIP entrance. As well as, greeting and directing guests on the club and suite levels and conducting suite sweeps. This is a part-time, event-based, union and hourly position.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet guests as they enter NYCB Live with a smile
  • Responsible for scanning tickets and ensuring all guests have a proper ticket/credential
  • Provide guests with friendly and accurate directions
  • Responsible for protecting the integrity of the premium areas by ensuring all guests have a proper ticket/credential
  • Provide accurate directions to the various clubs, suites special hospitality locations, and all premium areas of the building
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with Levy’s Restaurants to ensure that all needs of our premium guests are met
  • Work with Security to ensure that all suites are empty of guests and lost items at the conclusion of every event
  • Serve in central hubs of guest communication, (i.e. Guest Services Booths and Concierge Desks), responding to guest complaints, questions, and comments, administering Guest Services programs, and distributing publications
  • Answer phone inquiries in a pleasant and professional manner, taking messages and giving proper event/building related information as needed
  • Check tickets for guests attempting to access their section and assist them in locating their seat
  • Responsible for maintaining a fun, friendly, and safe environment in assigned sections
  • Respond to guest complaints, questions, information requests and comments
  • Responsible for safely transporting guests who request wheelchair escort services from one location to another and properly using escort tracking sheets, and wheelchair logs
  • Operate elevators in a safe manner and ensure that only guests with proper tickets are allowed access to particular levels
  • Ability to work extended elevator shifts of 4-6 hours 
  • Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, without the loss of efficiency or composure
  • Use excellent customer service skills and positive attitude when interacting with guests, vendors, & employees
  • Complete all assigned tasks within the guidelines & deadlines set by Guest Services Managers and Supervisors
  • Effectively and calmly interact with angry or emotional guests and employees
  • Ability to memorize, recollect, retrieve, and recite relevant information
  • Follow all operating policies and procedures at all times
  • Maintain company confidentiality
  • Ability to work 4-6 hours per shift in confined area working as Elevator Operator
  • Walking & standing occurs 95% of the time (4-6 hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift 50 or more pounds
  • Employees may be assigned to work positions located outside
  • Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00am or later
  • Employee should use precautions & follow safety guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • One (1) year prior customer service experience, preferably in a sports/entertainment venue environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and regular in attendance with good communication skills
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from NYCB Live for scheduled shifts
  • Must have the ability to read, write and understand English in a working environment
  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Ability to take direction well and work well with others
  • Must maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance that conveys professionalism at all times
  • Must be available to work at least 70% of events per month; including all events on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. (Approximately 24 at maximum)
