POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The LA Galaxy Communications Associate will assist the Communications Department in its day-to-day duties and game day media operations while learning the daily workings and intricacies of a professional soccer club’s Communications Department. The Communications Associate will receive hands on experience in a fast-paced, professional environment while working within the entire LA Galaxy Marketing, Communications and Digital Department.

 

Regular attendance and hours in conformance with the standards, which may be established by AEG from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the company including working game nights.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Weekly Duties:

  • Assist with the production of club’s printed materials, including press releases, game notes, online content, including writing and editing.
  • Maintaining the Communications Department archives through the cataloging of photos and press clippings in addition to the compilation of various media recaps.
  • Assist with all PR efforts and initiatives at training sessions, including handling media requests and supplying credentialed media with the necessary information.
  • Serving as the Galaxy Communications representative at select Galaxy functions and events, conducting interviews and writing recaps as necessary.
  • Complete various communications projects, including statistical research, media seeding and local outreach.
  • Assist in the coordination of all LA Galaxy II communication items – weekly previews, match recaps, game day operations.
  • Assisting on creating digital media content (Twitter, www.lagalaxy.com)

Game Day Duties:

  • Assist with the day’s media operations
  • Preparation of all press box materials
  • The setup of the press box
  • Media Will Call
  • Assist with In-Game Press Box Management
  • Postgame interviews, quote collection and transcription
  • Assisting on digital media (Twitter, www.lagalaxy.com)

LA Galaxy II media operations, including:

  • Collection and distribution of lineups
  • Operating and recording game statistical program
  • Conducting postgame interviews
  • Transcribing postgame interviews
  • Distributing recaps and game documents
  • Assisting on digital media (Twitter, www.lagalaxy.com)

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Programs such as Adobe Photoshop are a plus
  • Ability to work in a professional environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer and MLS and USL
  • Previous experience working in a sports or communications environment
