The Hammarby Sports Assocation
was founded in 1987 to provide recreation
and sports for the working classes and
currently fields teams as diverse as
boxing, skiing, and rowing. But its
most notable team is Hammarby Fotboll,
which won its first Swedish Championship
in 2001. |

The team plays in Soderstation, which holds nearly 15,000, but when the opponent is a cross-town rival AIK or Djurgarden, they fill the 25,000-seat National Stadium. |

Hammarby boasts one of the largest fan clubs
in Sweden, and plans have begun to explore
enlarging the capacity of their stadium
as a result of the team's success.
